FOSDA HAS ORGANIZED A REGIONAL EDUCATION WEBINAR ON ‘MITIGATING THE IMPACT OF COVID-19 ON EDUCATION IN WEST AFRICA.
The Foundation for Security and Development in Africa organized a regional education webinar in partnership with West African Civil Society Institute (WACSI), OXFAM, ANCEFA YEFL-GHANA in collaboration with ECOWAS and other CSO’s on Thursday 29th October 2020.
As West African states gradually re-open schools in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is expedient that our education systems build back better after this crisis. It is important to ensure that the inequalities in education and the pre-existing learning challenges are not deteriorated.
The webinar included key stakeholders and speakers across the ECOWAS sub region. Notable speakers during the webinar was the Deputy Minister of Education of Ghana, Hon. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, CEO & Founder of African Centre for Tax and Governance, Mr. Mustapha Ndajiwo, PPO Research and Grants: West African Health Organization, Mr. Sombie Issiaka, Head of Education Section UNESCO Office Accra, Mr. Prosper Nyavor, The Founder and & CEO eCampus LLC, Mr. Cecil Senna Nutakor and a youth representative from Burkina Faso, Miss Roukiatou Sedgo.
Our Speakers shared ideas and their perspectives on safe re-opening of schools and building a resilient education system for all beyond Covid-19. Some notable recommendations brought up were how governments can generate the revenue to mitigate the impact of Covid-19:
- is to phase out ineffective and wasteful tax incentives,
- Conduct a cost benefit analysis of tax incentives.
The webinar was a very successful one because it highlighted on the theme, purpose and had a very engaging host of speakers and participants cutting across the sub-region.
