FOSDA DEPLOYS PEACE AMBASSADORS IN GREATER ACCRA HOTSPOTS

The Foundation for Security and Development in Africa (FOSDA) has deployed 80 Peace Ambassadors to promote peace in selected hotspots in the Greater Accra Metropolitan Area. The peace tour was held on the 6th December,2020 and targeted the electorate in general and strategically the youth who are the likely perpetrators of violence. The message of the peace tour was for the citizenry to remain peaceful before, during and after the elections; report violence to the security agencies; and importantly to go home after they cast their vote and return to observe counting.
The Foundation’s peace tour is part of national efforts to promote peace in the country. It also follows the peace walk organized by the Women in Leadership International (WILI) thorough out Accra to promote peace which FOSDA participated.
The peace tour focused on communities in the Ayawaso Constituencies; Odododiodio and Ablekuma West Constituencies. FOSDA-trained Peace Ambassadors were instrumental in engaging the citizens to share with them the peace message. Recipients of the message were encouraged to share same with their friends, families and neighbors.
Through the tour, the message reached over 1,600 direct citizens. It is likely to translate to 4,800 indirect beneficiaries given the average fertility rate of 3-births per woman considering the 2017 Demographic and Health Survey.
The Peace tour was organized under the Ballots not Bullets CAPE project being implemented in Ghana this year in partnership with The West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP) and the European Union (EU). The theme for the Project this Year is ‘Zero Tolerance for Electoral Violence.
