Ghana Elections 2020: Foundation for security and Development in Africa (FOSDA) condemns Pre- Election violence in Yagaba Kubori Constituency
The Foundation for Security and Development in Africa (FOSDA) strongly condemns the recent violent clash between the NPP and NDC supporters in the Yagaba-Kubori constituency in the North East Region reported by the media on 30 November 2020. The incident was unpatriotic, unfortunate, and avoidable. It is very unfortunate that some political leaders are not able to inhibit their followers and supporters to conduct themselves peacefully. We are in a very critical period of the electoral season and it crucial that Politicians lead by example to safeguard Ghana’s Peace and Democratic credentials.
FOSDA is calling, especially, on both the NPP and NDC Leadership and aspiring members of parliament to call on their supporters to let peace prevail before, during and after the general election and to publicly condemn and disassociate themselves from this and any act of violence.
We further call on the North East Regional police commander and the Mamprugu Moagduri police commander to act swiftly to bring these reckless hoodlums to book to set the right example as Ghana heads towards the December 7 General Elections.
We entreat the IGP and the entire security services to use this as a wake-up call to increase their routine surveillance across the country, to ensure timely interventions and protection of lives and property.
FOSDA also entreats all citizens to conduct themselves peacefully and restrain from taking the law into their own hands but rather refer relevant issues to the appropriate authorities.
