Eight Hundred (800) residents in eight (8) suburbs of the Kumasi Metropolis have benefited from a relief intervention program, initiated by the Foundation for Security and Development in Africa (FOSDA) with support from Oxfam. The relief items were mainly food.

This intervention was necessitated by the growing pains of young people and women who have lost their small scale businesses due to COVID-19.

As government slowly eases the restrictions imposed to curtail the spread of the virus, businesses are gradually picking up, however, cost of living is still on the rise. It is in light of this that the Ashanti Regional Youth Network (ARYN) with the support of FOSDA and Oxfam recognizing the hardships accompanying this pandemic has expanded its COVID-19 response project to distribute dry food to poor and vulnerable families in the Kumasi Metropolis.

The objective of this initiative is to complement government’s social intervention efforts targeted at poor and vulnerable families and individuals, especially young people, who are likely to have been impacted by COVID-19.

The beneficiary communities included Aboabo, Sawaba, Tafo, Asawase, Ntonso Aboaso, Suame Kotoko, Kaase Zongo and Anloga.

The 4-day (9th-12th October, 2020) activity did not only distribute food but also sensitized the beneficiaries on COVID-19 issues as well as distribute Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs).
